Time to Act weekend a huge success!

The weekend of 11-12 May was filled with laughter, gasps of astonishment, audience participation, and even a few tears. The Oddments Theatre Company brought us two wonderful performances: 'The Hiding Place', the moving and poignant true story of Corrie Ten Boom whose family hid Jews during WWII and were arrested and taken to a concentration camp, and the family-friendly 'Dan in the Den', a lively telling of the Bible story about Daniel who was thrown into a den of lions because of his faith.

These performances showed us two people whose faith in God brought them into conflict with the authorities, but they stood firm and were vindicated in the end.

A real highlight of the weekend was sharing hot dogs and doughnuts in the Jubilee Gardens on Sunday afternoon after 'Dan in the Den'. The sun shone on us, giving the children a chance to play and adults a chance to mingle and chat in the beautiful outdoors.

If you'd like to know more about the faith that kept Corrie and Daniel strong, take a look at the notice above about our Alpha Course starting in June, when we will explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting.

Climbing the Mountain of Romans

Over the Autumn and into the Winter we will be looking at two books in the Bible for our Sunday morning talks – the book of Psalms from the Old Testament and the book of Romans from the New.

Romans has been described as “the high peak of scripture”, with “all roads in the Bible leading to Romans”. The riches it contains are almost inexhaustible.  Martin Lloyd-Jones, the famous Welsh preacher, took 13 years to preach through the book Romans! We will take a little less but I hope enough to give us an overview of this amazing book and whet our appetites to plumb its depths in greater detail in our own time.
